
About Dr. Judi Godsey

Judi Godsey, PhD, MSN has been a Registered Nurse for 30 years with experience in critical care, dermatology/oncology, population health, nursing administration, and research. She currently serves as faculty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Northern Kentucky University (NKU). Her experience as a nurse educator spans 17 years with additional faculty appointments at the University of Hawaii and Xavier University in Cincinnati. Her teaching expertise encompasses multiple delivery methods, including campus-based, videoconference/synchronous format, hybrid, and asynchronous (online) across undergraduate, graduate and doctoral nursing programs.

Dr. Godsey founded the Northern Kentucky Nursing & Interprofessional Research Collaborative (NIRC) at NKU in 2005. This longstanding collaboration between academic and practice settings has been nationally and internationally recognized for the value it places on nursing research, evidenced based practice, and student led initiatives designed to improve the health of the region. The NIRC received the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) Academic Practice Partnership Award (2016) and two Sigma International Nursing Research Advancement Awards (2010 and 2012) through a partnership with NKU’s Nursing Honor Society. Dr. Godsey also served as the Director of Nursing Research at The Christ Hospital Health Network in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was the primary research liaison for all levels of interprofessional nursing practice and administration.

Dr. Godsey has authored numerous journal articles and national/international presentations. Her most recent publications describe original interprofessional research on the “Brand Image of Nursing”, and include the factors which contribute to nursing’s inconsistent image (2020), a psychometric analysis of the Brand Image of Nursing instruments© (2017), and recommendations for re-branding the nursing profession to a focus on “Nurses as Leaders” using the principles of branding theory (2020).

Dr. Godsey studied under Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Center for Mindfulness at University of Massachusetts Medical School. Her publication entitled “Mindfulness Based Interventions in Obesity and Eating Disorders: An Integrative Review” (2013) was one of the most downloaded articles for the Journal of Complementary Therapies in Medicine. She was a 2019 Greater Cincinnati Healthcare Hero Award Finalist, received NKU’s Alumni of the Year Award, as well as the Civic Engagement Award for exemplary service to the community and to the profession of nursing. Dr. Godsey was also recognized by the Council on Post-Secondary Education at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC for her contributions to the public good.
Dr. Godsey currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Nurses’ Association, the Northern Kentucky Health District, and the Children’s Law Center.
